Marion Telford

Marion Telford was born on the coast of Cumbria where she grew up to form a love of the coast, the sea, mountains and lakes. After graduating with a Textile Design degree in London she moved to East Sussex, where she opened a Gallery and studio to produce and show her own screen printed textiles while teaching part-time at Eastbourne College of Art. Following a move to Somerset, she taught Fine Art in Adult Education classes for 15 years, before moving in 1999 to her home and studio at Friog, Gwynedd.

Her work is mostly of landscapes and seascapes of the surrounding areas, where she forms preparatory drawings and small watercolour studies, before completing the finished paintings in the studio. Currently she is working on a series of paintings which try and instill the spirit of the mountains and coast. Layers of oil paint are applied by palette knife onto a primed card, which gives a soft, matt surface to the work. The completed paintings are shown behind glass to preserve the surface from pollution.
