Melanie Williams is an Encaustic & Mixed Media Artist. Encaustic means to ‘burn in’ and this form of painting was used by the ancient Greeks to decorate their boats and the Egyptians to embellish mummies. Mel uses the hot wax and any sharp tools to create unique artworks.
Mel has lived in North Wales since childhood and now she lives in Bala. She is inspired by the outstanding natural beauty of the Snowdonia National Park. She has always loved being creative and over the years has mainly used watercolour as her medium. Recently she's found a great interest in colour, texture and patterns and has turned to encaustic painting. She is constantly experimenting with new ideas and using different tools to transform the wax colour pigments into artistic colourful images. The finished effect is similar to that of oil painting as you can apply thick layers of wax which are both lightfast and vibrant.
