Spike Blackhurst

Spike graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art Sculpture from Bath Spa University and then pursued a course in Blacksmithing at Hereford College. After various work placements and apprenticeships she set up Gothic Blacksmiths in 2003. Spike's forge is located in Llanbrynmair Mid Wales. Her Artistic Blacksmithing Business began in 2003 and as her reputation has grown, so has the demand for unusual and individual pieces of work.

Spike accepts commissions which are mostly created from her own design, unless she has a specific design from her clients. She has developed and learnt a wide range of metal and forging techniques, and working as a Blacksmith has given her great insight, which she utilises as a sculptor.

Alongside her commissions spike used to tour England and Wales with her portable forge and tought at Festivals, Art events, Home Educational Groups and School community projects. However, she now prefers to teach at her workshop where she provides one to one tuition and the full training and use of all her equipment is at her students use.
