Penny Gibbons studied art as part of her teaching degree at Brighton College of Education, graduating in 1980. After a teaching career of 35 years, she retired to Wales in 2015 and has since rediscovered her love of painting and drawing.
Penny has exhibited her work in various art exhibitions in the Midlands and in Sussex, in the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester and in MOMA Wales in Machynlleth.
Her work is based mostly on natural forms. She particularly enjoys focusing on butterflies and feels the paintings glory in their subject matter. She attempts to present the butterflies with a solid degree of unfussiness, there is no attempt at idealisation or beautification, the butterflies are observed and painted with fastidiousness and precision.
Penny enjoys working in watercolour, crayon and pencil.
