Brian Duffy began his journey working with glass in an industrial setting after leaving school. Moving to North Wales in 1993, his passion for glass grew and he sought to develop his skills at university studying architectural stained-glass design.
He continued onto a masters in contemporary applied arts culminating in an installation piece called ‘186,282 miles per second’ inspired by capturing the fleeting moments of reflected light within glass sculptures set against an urban environment.
After 20 years of demonstrating glass design and techniques to students at degree level, Brian set up the North Wales creative glass studio in Caergwrle, where he now works as a freelance glass artist. From his studio he offers courses allowing others the chance to discover glass design in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
Brian’s inspiration is drawn from architecture, light in nature, medieval stained glass and the contemporary glass artists Harry Clarke, Patrick Reyntiens and Brian Clarke.
Responding to the beauty of glass as a material is key to his own work and finds there is always something to explore and experiment with and discover through its light-altering effects. The pieces that are featured at ArtWorks Aberdyfi reflect the colours of the sea and the landscape from walks along the North Wales coastal path.
Brian’s private commission work has been featured in a variety of settings including client’s personal homes and most recently as part of an award-winning RHS Tatton garden. Brian is happy to be contacted to discuss any private commissions.
