Sheila paints in response to the landscape, originally that of Essex and Suffolk while living in the east, and is now inspired by the mountains, countryside and the coast of West Wales. She walks and swims, takes photographs and absorbs the atmosphere of an area enabling her to express these sensations in paint. She does not aim for representation but for the sense of a place, its mood and essence combining what she sees with her imagination.
She began her creative journey as a textile artist completing a City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Creative Textile Design & Embroidery and exhibiting with a creative textile group for several years. After experimenting with paint and dye on fabric she moved exclusively into painting with a preference for acrylics and mixed media.
Her work has been selected for two Open Exhibitions in East Anglia and she has also exhibited with Colchester Art Society and The Minories Galleries, Colchester.
While in Essex she belonged to a small exhibiting art group. Four recent exhibitions with them have been held at Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh in Suffolk.
Her move to Tywyn has been an exciting opportunity with new landscape right on her doorstep.
