Kathy is a local artist who lives in Tywyn. She has been working with clay for over 25 years. As well as having her own studio; she helps run a community pottery in Tywyn where she both teaches local potters and runs fund raising weekends for the cancer charity Odyssey.
She loves to throw on a potter’s wheel to create functional ware. However, combining throwing and handbuilding gives rise to some of her sculptural forms; hens, fish and hares. She tries to capture the “spirit” of the form chosen, and so movement is an important element in her work as this shows the energy and “life” within.
Decoration of her pottery is varied. Some of her functional ware is glazed, but she also enjoys smoke firing pieces due to the elemental nature of the process. Her sculptural forms are finished in cold cast bronze, polished, or glazed depending on the effect that works best with the form.
Kathy also paints. She has a fresh, expressive and colourful style; hallmarks of her approach to creativity. Most of her work is done quickly and freely, to capture the shape and emotion of the moment.
She has exhibited at the Museum for Modern Art for Wales in Machynlleth and at various other galleries in mid and north Wales, including Plas Glyn-Y-Weddw on the Lleyn Peninsular She is happy to be contacted regarding commissions
