Welsh slate is a beautiful, natural material that was laid down about 500 million years ago.
Ian first started working with slate in 1988. Although this early work only lasted for a short period it formed the beginnings of a lasting fascination with slate.
The tactile texture, colour variations and veining mean that there is always something different to find.
In 2005 Ian started experimenting with slate again. This has developed into the range of jewellery now being produced. By utilising the variations in slate it is possible to produce items that are individual in nature. The slate is split, cut and polished to bring out its best features. The aim being, as far as possible, to produce items that are unique.
Ian is based in Bangor near the traditional slate towns of Bethesda and Llanberis, and uses slate from a variety of Welsh quarries.
