Alison Milton

Alison started sewing from a very early age encouraged by her mother who was an excellent seamstress and who taught needlework to adults. Alison has used many of these acquired skills to make clothes for herself and her family, often making up her own designs and trying out ideas with a variety of fabrics.

In addition to clothing, Alison has always enjoyed making the soft furnishings for her home, not just by making curtains, blinds and cushions but by making covers for a sofa bed, conservatory chairs and more recently making lampshades.

Alison would utilise and repurpose old sails from Toppers or Lasers to cover outside chairs, cushions or beanbag seats before it was really fashionable to do so.

Since retiring, Alison bought herself a new state-of-the-art computerised sewing and embroidery machine and has been back in her “happy place” experimenting, designing and trying out new ideas. Some ideas worked some ideas did not, nevertheless, Alison was always keen to have constructive feedback from her friends. Initially, Alison taught herself to use the new machine with help from videos and online groups. She started to make individual, bespoke items for her friends as presents and then her friends asked her to make items for their friends and she was becoming quite busy with this hobby. Alison enjoys the making and embroidering and has made a range of items with images and/or quotes. These include lavender bags, tea towels, cushions, aprons, tote bags, hats and bamboo towelling changing robes to name but a few. Alison likes to use organic natural fabric or recycled sailcloth.

Alison is happy to consider commissions on most things and will be happy to discuss designs, colours and prices on an individual basis. So, if you are interested in having something bespoke please email her.
